|Bioshock Infiniate is one of those games that succeeds in grabbing you and holds on to you until you have finished it.
The writting is incredible, while the story can be familiar to some, the journey as a whole feel original, fresh and manages to get the player fully immerged into the game world.
While playing trough the game, fans of the series will find themself familiar to the upgrade system. You start of without a weapon, the rules of the world get explained and trough the story more powers will unlock.
Although the sytem is nice and used in many games, there is a downside to it.
Some power which I liked very much were unlocked on 75% of the game, and with the lack of a new game+ these powers cannot be used on other points in the game.
The result is that you spam some powers more than others near the end because you could not use them early in the game.
I was also quite pleased with the duration of the game, while I heared and read that a lot of people finished in under ten hours I was shocked. A game like Bioshock Infinite is so much more than just run/gun/power. Sometimes you really need to slow your pace, soak in the environment and just listen to the people around you.
Bioshock Infinite is a game that combines a lot of good ideas, the game offers a lot of different powers and weapons. Sadly there arent as much weapon upgrades available as in the original Bioshock and its sequel. The story never feels dull, the voice acting is really amazing and the soundtrack makes you feel like you lived in the fifties.
In total this has been one of the best games I played in 2013, sad that Ken levine (the man behind the series) has left 2K and closed Irrational Games to work on smaller projects.
